Since making music a career in 1995, Douglas Cameron has released 11 albums of his music, extensively toured the West year after year, played with all sorts of big name artists, played at premier concert venues, won a nationwide songwriting contest, has had his songs placed in TV ads and films, and has grown a considerable fan base all while staying fiercely independent. With no record label or big corporate money behind him, Douglas Cameron calls his own shots, and he likes it that way. The stories are endless, from being backed by the Pam Tillis Band for a performance in Nashville, TN, to playing for 10,000 people at Red Rocks Amphitheater outside Denver, CO, to watching his truck blow up on the side of the road in Wyoming, Cameron continues his musical journey while allowing all these events of life to inspire his songs.

BAR365 5pm-8pm: Joel Kaserman

Joel Kaserman has been a performing musician for over 30 years. Born in Tennessee and raised (with some extra time on his hands) in the Australian outback, Joel became passionate about guitar playing and progressed with the guidance of his father and countless hours resetting the needle on vinyl records to learn that part. The original Will the Circle be Unbroken album, and anything Doc Watson were some of his favorites. Doc became a distant but powerful influence and Joel eventually got to play a few tunes with Doc.

Joel has played, toured, and recorded with talented musicians including Loose Ties, Muzzie Braun, Pinto Bennett, Alice B., Ben Burdick, Chris Wall, and Reilly Coyote. He judged the National Flatpicking Championships in Winfield Kansas as well as performing at the festival with Loose Ties, a progressive bluegrass band. As part of Loose Ties, Joel performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Two of the band’s songs, recorded live, are featured on the 1st Planet Bluegrass album.

Joel ‘s early influences led him to expand his horizons and he added both mandolin and banjo to his repertoire. He has an interesting blend of traditional and progressive styles that make his unique sound. You will hear many influences in Joel’s music. Some you will know and, hopefully, some that you haven’t heard yet, but you’d like to get to know

Sandbar 1pm-4pm: Idyltime

Most people can hear a certain song and it will take them back to a prior experience, maybe to a feeling had and relived through a melody. Idyltime is comprised of four souls eternally searching for the source of this nostalgia. People often tell us that our music takes them back to a memory, and it reminds them of the good in the world. Idyltime, a band originally playing bluegrass out of southern Oregon, re-formed in 2011 when Beth and Tate Mason moved to Boise, Idaho. There they joined up with Dave Daley and Ava Honey who were hosting the weekly old-time jam at Pengilly’s. Dave and Ava continue to be extremely active in developing the acoustic roots music and square dance scene in Boise. With over 40 years of fiddling, Dave brings a lifetime of musical experience to the original songwriting of Idyltime. As a band, their goal is to enrich lives through music and community. Idyltime can be found pickin’ tunes at the crossroads between bluegrass, old-time, singer-songwriter, and classic country. www.idyltimemusic.com

The Sapphire Room | Andy Byron's Americana Music Series

Andy Byron's Americana Music Series:

A SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO

"2 GEORGES--STRAIT & JONES"

with The Mighty Red Melons

The Mighty Red Melons pay tribute to two more of their C/W heroes, George Jones and George Strait. Both born in trailer parks to the sound of Hank Williams playing on scratchy 78's in the back room, while the family played darts in the kitchen and got mad at the noise. This hollerin' caused these two babies to start singing when they were only three days old, and they each were making a living on the street corners of Ferguson, Tennessee, and Lewiston, Idaho respectively by the time they were 5. Although from different generations, their paths crossed often at Safeway stores across America as they looked into each other's baskets to see what was in there, and then sang about it.

So many of those songs can still be heard on the radio even today, although, with all the “so called” country on there these days, this stuff gets closer and closer to the bottom shelf every year. But if you want to hear real honky tonk from the Two Greatest George's....this show will have it, from stompers to weepers and everything in between. Bring your hankies and your boots… time for another great Melon Tribute Show!

11/4 Encore Show!

The Sapphire Room | Boise Jazz Society

Boise Jazz Society presents:

Cecile McLorin Salvant Quartet

Doors open at 6:00pm; Show starts at 7:00pm

LIMITED TICKETS MAY BE AVAILABLE

visit boisejazzsociety.org or call 208-426-3498 for more information

Cécile McLorin Salvant was born and raised in Miami, Florida of a French mother and a Haitian father. She started classical piano studies at 5, and began singing in the Miami Choral Society at 8. Early on, she developed an interest in classical voice, began studying with private instructors, and later with Edward Walker, vocal teacher at the University of Miami.

In 2007, Cécile moved to Aix-en-Provence, France, to study law as well as classical and baroque voice at the Darius Milhaud Conservatory. It was in Aix-en-Provence, with reedist and teacher Jean-François Bonnel, that she started learning about jazz, and sang with her first band. In 2009, after a series of concerts in Paris, she recorded her first album "Cécile", with Jean-François Bonnel's Paris Quintet. A year later, she won the Thelonious Monk competition in Washington D.C.

Over the years, she has developed a curiosity for the history of American music, and the connections between jazz, vaudeville, blues, and folk music. Cécile carefully chooses her repertoire, oftentimes unearthing rarely recorded, forgotten songs, with strong stories.
She enjoys popularity in Europe and in the United States, performing in clubs, concert halls, and festivals. In 2014, her second album, WomanChild (Mack Avenue Records) was nominated for a Grammy.

Her third album, For One To Love (for Mack Avenue Records), was recorded in 2015 with Aaron Diehl (piano), Paul Sikivie (bass), and Lawrence Leathers (drums). In 2016, For One To Love won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
